Changes in magnetic interactions in the BixGd1-xVO4 compounds (0 less
than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.64) were measured using EPR
as a function of x. For 0 < x < 0.1 and 0.55 < x < 0.64 dipolar inter
actions predominate, while for 0.1 < x < 0.55 dipolar and exchange int
eractions are in competition. The relative predominance of each type o
f interaction is related to the results of diffuse reflectance and Ram
an diffusion spectroscopies. Linewidth changes as a function of x are
also discussed.
