J. Marais, THE VALUE OF SEDATION NASENDOSCOPY - A COMPARISON BETWEEN SNORING ANDNON-SNORING PATIENTS, Clinical otolaryngology and allied sciences, 23(1), 1998, pp. 74-76
Sedation or sleep nasoendoscopy is a widely used investigation in snor
ers presenting to otolaryngologists in the UK, despite its nonphysiolo
gical basis. The presence or absence of snoring and its site of genera
tion were compared between a group of 205 snorers and another of 126 n
on-snorers. Snoring was produced at nasoendoscopy in 45.3% of non-snor
ers but could not be produced in 18.1% of snorers. There was no signif
icant difference in the site of sound production between the two group
s and although the noise produced by the non-snoring group was quieter
, this difference was not significant.
