From an analysis, using Wilson-Devinney method, of the corrected yello
w light curve of the semi detached eclipsing binary system AU Monocero
tis (AU Mon), obtained by Lorenzi (1980b), an improved value for the m
ass ratio, q, equal to 0.1985 and reliable geometrical elements were d
erived. They give the absolute elements as: m(h)/m. = 5.93 +/- 0.31; m
(c)/m. = 1.18 +/- 0.16; R-h/(R). = 5.28 +/- 0.16; R-c/R. = 10.04 +/- 0
.74; Log L-h/L. = 3.16 +/- 0.14; Log L-c/L. = 2.07 +/- 0.21; Log g(h)
= 3.76 +/- 0.06; and Log g(c) = 2.51 +/- 0.02. When compared to main s
equence stars of similar mass, the primary is found to have normal lum
inosity, bigger size and lower temperature while the secondary is foun
d to have higher luminosity, bigger size and normal temperature for th
eir masses. On the HR diagram of the normal main sequence stars! the p
rimary is found to lie near but above the main sequence (brighter by 1
.(m)4). The secondary component is far above the main sequence and is
overluminous by about 4.(m)5.
