J. Illingworth et al., UPWELLING TANK FOR CULTURING ROCK LOBSTER (JASUS-EDWARDSII) PHYLLOSOMAS, Marine and freshwater research, 48(8), 1997, pp. 911-914
A tank system for culturing rock lobster (Jasus edwardsii) phyllosomas
is described. Four tanks, one of which remains empty, are interconnec
ted by ports that allow larvae to be transferred without handling and
the vacated tank to be cleaned. Vertical water movement in each tank m
aintains the larvae in suspension, and the overall design and manageme
nt allows for feeding with live brine shrimp (Artemia). Mean survival
rates of over 60% to Stage VIII have been obtained, but only one pueru
lus has been reared.
