A preliminary requirement for the design of a separation process is th
e reliable knowledge of the phase equilibrium behavior of the systems
to be separated. Since the available experimental data are often limit
ed, the predictions of the missing phase equilibria in the chemical in
dustry are often performed using group contribution methods.
