A simple and rapid method for the determination of famotidine is descr
ibed. Famotidine is titrated with a solution of palladium(II)-chloride
in Britton-Robinson buffer (pH = 3.60) using a silver indicator elect
rode. A stable yellow complex is formed. A significant step of the pot
ential appears when the stoichiometric ratio of palladium(II) to famot
idine is 1:1. The method is suitable for the determination of micro qu
antities (2.5-0.8 mg) of famotidine alone or in pharmaceutical dosage
forms with a relative standard deviation of 0.7-2.3%.
