Using the enzyme collagenase as an example, we describe a model develo
ped from the Michaelis-Menten and simple diffusion equations which per
mits a quantitative determination of enzyme release from a carrier on
the basis of photometric measurements. It is shown that the action of
anhydrous topical pharmaceutical products containing collagenase, e.g
Novuxol(R) or Iruxol(R), is determined not by release of the enzyme bu
t by reactions at the collagenase/wound surface interface.
