Mg. Dasilva et J. Rocha, OXIDATION-STATE OF MANGANESE IONS IN SILICATE GELS AND GEL-DERIVED GLASSES, Physics and Chemistry of Glasses, 39(1), 1998, pp. 41-44
In the present work 0.5MnO-99.5 SiO2, 0.5MnO-5Al(2)O(3) and 0.5MnO-5Ca
O-94.5SiO(2) gels and gel derived glasses prepared by using tetraethyl
orthosilicate (TEOS) and manganese, calcium and aluminium nitrates as
starting materials were studied. The gel samples were heat treated bet
ween 60 and 800 degrees C and examined by visible spectrophotometry (V
IS), Al-27 and Si-29 magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (
MAS-NMR) and Mn2+ electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR).
These techniques were used to determine the structural role of Cd2+ an
d Al3+ on the structural incorporation of manganese.
