Using the Fourier transform we showed the possibility of representing
the dependences of variations in a number of properties of elements (i
onization potential, orbital radius, etc.) on the nuclear charge in th
e form of a spectral function that is expressed by a series of periodi
c components determining the periodicity of the change in properties o
f elements in the periodic system. The contribution of f elements to t
he values of the spectral function allows refinement of the number and
values of periodic components. The model suggested can be used in stu
dying the periodicity of the variations in properties of elementary su
bstances and chemical compounds and for developing approaches to evalu
ation of properties of superheavy elements.
