The material of active part of neutrino source after decay of the main
radionuclide Cr-51 (T1/2 = 27.7 days) and regeneration can be repeate
dly used or production of Cr-51 samples with high activity. The develo
ped procedure of regeneration of Cr-50 includes the following operatio
ns: remote-controlled removal of Co-60 (which is the most active impur
ity after decay of Cr-51) and other impurities by coprecipitation with
iron(III) hydroxide; ion-exchange removal of vanadium in the Dowex-1
x 8(Cl)-HCl-H2O2 system; and extraction-chromatographic refining in th
e trialkylamine-HCl system. The content of impurities in the recovered
product corresponds to the usual level of reagent impurities.
