P. Collin et Pm. Badot, SYNTHESIS ON THE DATA DEALING WITH GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF COMMON ASH (FRAXINUS-EXCEISIOR L), Acta botanica gallica, 144(2), 1997, pp. 253-267
This paper gathers the data dealing with the biology and the physiolog
y of the common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.). First, the general featur
es of ash autecology are described. Then, physiology of the terminal b
ud and growth and development under controlled conditions are especial
ly studied. Short correlations were evidenced between apical buds and
their underlying tissues, stem precedes apical bud in the chronology o
f the dormancy. Long distance correlations involving carbohydrate pool
changes were demons:rated between the terminal bud, taproot and stem
during the growth renewal in ash tree. Root system is an key element i
n the control of rhythmic growth. Results reviewed here show that deve
lopment depend on the relations between the different parts of the pla
nt. The work relative to renewal oi the shoot elongation after defolia
tion make ash a good experimental material for studying the control of
rhythmic growth.
