F. Michielutti et al., MYCOTIC ENDOCARDITIS, INTRACARDIAL AND AO RTIC THROMBOSIS IN THE NEONATE - PRESENTATION OF 2 CASES, Rivista italiana di pediatria, 23(6), 1997, pp. 1066-1070
Venous and arterial thrombosis are reported more and more frequently,
in newborns submitted to invasive procedures and especially to central
vessel catheterization, Right atrial thrombosis has been rarely repor
ted and carries no hight mortality rate. We report 2 cases of neonatal
mycotic sepsis with endocarditis associated with intraatrial and aort
ic thrombosis. Thrombolysis with urokinase (4400 IU/kg i.v. in 10 minu
tes followed by a dose of 4000/IU/kg/hr for 12 hrs) has been effective
and safe in 1 case. Serial echocardiography has been very useful by d
iagnosis and monitoring during and after treatment.
