Abstract
An experiment was conducted during 1992-93 and 1993-94 on clayey soils at Junagadh to study the effect of organic manures [farmyard manure ( FYM) and castor cake] and chemical fertilizers, alone and in combinati on with each other, on wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori & Paol .) cv. 'GW 496'. Application of either 5 tonnes castor cake + 120 kg N + 60 kg P2O5/ha or 5 tonnes castor cake + 60 kg N + 30 Kg P2O5/ha or 15 tonnes FYM + 120 kg N + 60 kg P2O5/ha, being at par with each other , significantly improved growth, yield; quality and nutrients uptake b y wheat. Application of FYM alone or in combination with chemical fert ilizers significantly increased the residual status of available N and P in soil.
