Abstract
A new species of the genus Brachycephalus is described from the State of Parana, Southern Brazil. The new species is characterized by black coloration on the flanks, orange dorsum, and absence of dermal ossific ation dorsal to the vertebrae. We suggest that the reduction of number of phalanges in hands and feet is related to the distinctive walking behavior in the genus Brachycephalus.
