Oil/water interfacial viscosities are reported for aqueous mixtures of
polyacrylamide (PAAM) and three different surfactants, i.e. sodium do
decyl sulfate, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and a commercial non-ion
ic surfactant, TritonX-100. The results showed that interfacial viscos
ity was dependent on shear rate, the interfacial viscosity decreased a
s the ionic surfactant concentration increased, but the interfacial vi
scosity was independent of non-ionic surfactant concentration and it w
as relatively higher. Based on these experimental results, a mechanism
for PAAM-surfactant interactions was proposed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scie
