1. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of calcium dob
esilate on relaxant and contractile responses in the isolated rabbit a
orta. 2. Calcium dobesilate (10(-6) and 10(-4) M) shifted the concentr
ation-response curve induced by noradrenaline (10(-8)-10(-4) M) downwa
rd and to the right, the IC50 being 5.1+/-1.1x10(-7) M in the control
and 7.5+/-1.2x10(-6) M and 3.1+/-1.9x10(-6) M in the presence of calci
um dobesilate, 10(-6) M and 10(-4) M respectively. 3. Calcium dobesila
te, 10(-5) M, increased the endothelium-dependent relaxation induced b
y acetylcholine (10(-8)-10(-5) M) but had no actions in the absence of
endothelium. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Inc.
