Abstract
The synthesis and spectroscopic properties of novel platinum (II) hali de complexes with (4-pyridyloxymethylene)dimethylphosphine oxide (p-tp o) and (3-pyridyloxymethylene)dimethylphosphine oxide (m-tpo) are repo rted. The vibrational (IR and Raman) and physical data are in agreemen t with suggested stoicheiometry ML2Cl2 (L = p-tpo and m-tpo) and cis-s quare planar PtN2Cl2 configuration. Both p-tpo and m-tpo act as monode ntate ligands and coordinate through the pyridyloxymethylene ring nitr ogen to the metal ion. IR and Raman spectra exhibit no shift to lower frequencies of the nu(P=O) and thus provide unambiguous evidence for a free P=O oxygen. Normal coordinate analysis (NCA) calculations of bot h ligands confirm the monodentate coordination of the ligands. (C) 199 8 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
