Linear colliders offer a unique opportunity to study gamma gamma and g
amma e interactions. Using the laser backscattering method one can obt
ain gamma gamma, gamma e colliding beams with an energy and luminosity
comparable to that in e(+)e(-) collisions. This work is part of the C
onceptual Design of TESLA/SBLC linear colliders considering a second i
nteraction region for gamma gamma and gamma e collisions. We consider
here possible physics in high-energy gamma gamma, gamma e collisions,
e --> gamma conversion, requirements to lasers, collision schemes, att
ainable luminosities, backgrounds, possible lasers, optics al the inte
raction region and other associated problems. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scienc
