C. Delfava et al., PREVALENCE OF ENZOOTIC BOVINE LEUKOSIS AMONG BUFFALOS (BUBALUS-BUBALIS) IN THE RIBEIRA VALLEY REGION STATE OF SAO-PAULO, BRAZIL, Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, 67(1), 1997, pp. 10-11
The prevalence of enzootic bovine leukosis (EEL) among female buffaloe
s reared in 15 herds of the Ribeira Valley, Brazil, was zero. Serum sa
mples(470)were submitted to agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) with a gly
coprotein antigen(gp51) for the diagnosis of EBL. The fact that no ser
oreactive animals were detected may probably be due to the predominant
ly extensive management of buffaloes and their little or no contact wi
th cattle, the major source of EEL infection.
