Abstract
There is considerable variation in monitoring techniques and definitio ns of sleep-disordered breathing. Work underway in the Sleep Heart Hea lth Study may help to clarify these issues. Home and portable monitori ng have the potential to improve cost and convenience of diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders but are currently indicated only in spec ific instances. Detection and monitoring of pediatric sleep-disoriente d breathing varies considerably from that of adults.
