Fj. Montes et al., A METABOLIC MODEL DESCRIBING GROWTH AND SUBSTRATE UPTAKE OF TRIGONOPSIS-VARIABILIS, Enzyme and microbial technology, 22(5), 1998, pp. 329-334
As a part of the study on the production of the enzyme D-Amino acid ox
idase (D-AAO) by the yeast Trigonopsis variabilis, a chemically struct
ured model capable of explaining cellular growth and substrate uptake
of T. variabilis is presented. The model makes use of a simple sequenc
e of biochemical reactions produced inside the cell and is capable of
simulating a range of metabolic responses obtained front the T. variab
ilis growth in discontinuous culture. The model can serve to understan
d the behavior of the yeast under different growth conditions and coul
d be used as a basis for rile design of an industrial fermentor for D-
AAO production. Since some modifications have been introduced to the b
asic metabolic model to provide even more generality, this new model c
an be applied to any yeast growing under discontinuous conditions. (C)
