Gr. Freeman et Nh. March, FRAGMENTATION PATTERNS OF ORGANIC-MOLECULES BY LOW-ENERGY POSITRONS -POSITROLYSIS, Molecular physics, 93(5), 1998, pp. 847-850
The fragmentation of organic molecules by positrons of energy below th
e threshold for formation of free-space positronium, named positrolysi
s, is compared with pyrolysis and photolysis. The fragmentation patter
n is predicted for acetone to yield the CH3CO+ ion, with possibly some
CH3+, the reason being that these result from the lowest-energy proce
sses. In the other cases considered, the theory is qualitatively consi
stent with published experimental fragmentation patterns.
