Anaerobic oxidation of [1,2-C-14]dichloroethene to (CO2)-C-14 under Mn
(IV)-reducing conditions was demonstrated. The results indicate that o
xidative degradation of partially chlorinated solvents like dichloroet
hene can be significant even under anoxic conditions and demonstrate t
he potential importance of Mn(IV) reduction for remediation of chlorin
ated groundwater contaminants.
