Am. Mirza et al., DYNAMICS OF HIGH-DENSITY THETA-PINCH PLASMA DRIVEN BY A SPINNING GAS-PUFF PLASMA ANNULUS, Plasma physics and controlled fusion, 40(3), 1998, pp. 393-402
The implosion dynamics of a high-density fibre plasma driven by a spin
ning Z-pinch is investigated. Spin coupling with the inner fibre plasm
a is taken into consideration. Numerical results show that the couplin
g can affect the plasma dynamics and reduce the maximum achievable den
sity and temperature. Thus the large spin needed to prevent the Raylei
gh-Taylor instability can adversely affect fusion conditions. For inte
rmediate spin and coupling, high densities and temperatures can be rea
lized for fibres seeded with high-Z impurities.
