Abstract
Fat reduced, unrestricted carbohydrate diets are indicated in cases of moderate overweight und to maintain reduced bodyweight. Important is that the lower energy supply due to reduced fat supply is not compensa ted energetically by increased consumption of other food. Whether high carbohydrate diets affect the lipid profile and the insulin dependent carbohydrate metabolism in some patient groups (android adipose patie nts, diabetics) remains to be answered. Some open questens relating to low fat, unrestricted carbohydrate diets are discussed in the light o f recent results of some physiological and clinical-experimental studi es: nutrient related control of food intake, fat storage in high carbo hydrate consumption, possibility of liposynthesis from carbohydrates, and energetic use of the energy from carbohydrates and fat.
