Abstract
The paper proposes a fuzzy inference system to assist the operator for voltage control and power loss minimisation. The reactive power contr ol problem is decoupled from the voltage regulator problem. A fuzzy ex pert system provides rules for both the problems. The fuzzy inference system acts as the front-end determine the control variables for the d ecoupled problems. An existing 30-bus distribution system is used to d emonstrate the effectiveness of the above approach. Simplicity of appr oach and speed make it a viable option for online Var control.
