eae) from Mexico and a clarification of the D. longissimum complex. Br
ittonia 50: 71-86. 1998.-Three new species of Dasylirion and a new var
iety of D. longissimum Lem. from the mountains of northern Mexico are
described and illustrated. Two of the new species are from northwester
n Mexico: D. gentryi, with large, rose-colored fruits and glossy, non-
waxy leaves; and D. sereke, characterized by roundish fruits with an u
nusually large style. Dasylirion miquihuanense is a new species from n
ortheastern Mexico with narrow, strictly upright leaves and widely sep
arated marginal prickles. The Dasylirion longissimum complex consists
of two species, D. quadrangulatum S. Wats. and D. longissimum Lem., ch
aracterized by narrow, quadrangulate leaves with reduced or absent mar
ginal prickles. Distinguishing features of these two species, which ha
ve often been confused, are presented and D. longissimum var. trelease
i, characterized by small flowers and fruits, is described.
