Abstract
Bogler, D. J. (Department of Botany, University of Texas at Austin, Au stin, TX 78713-7640, U.S.A.). Three new species of Dasylirion (Nolinac eae) from Mexico and a clarification of the D. longissimum complex. Br ittonia 50: 71-86. 1998.-Three new species of Dasylirion and a new var iety of D. longissimum Lem. from the mountains of northern Mexico are described and illustrated. Two of the new species are from northwester n Mexico: D. gentryi, with large, rose-colored fruits and glossy, non- waxy leaves; and D. sereke, characterized by roundish fruits with an u nusually large style. Dasylirion miquihuanense is a new species from n ortheastern Mexico with narrow, strictly upright leaves and widely sep arated marginal prickles. The Dasylirion longissimum complex consists of two species, D. quadrangulatum S. Wats. and D. longissimum Lem., ch aracterized by narrow, quadrangulate leaves with reduced or absent mar ginal prickles. Distinguishing features of these two species, which ha ve often been confused, are presented and D. longissimum var. trelease i, characterized by small flowers and fruits, is described.
