More than 80% of prostate cancer is diagnosed in men 60 years and olde
r, representing the most common neoplasm in elderly men. Signs and sym
ptoms predictive of prostate cancer are similar to those of prostatic
hyperplasia and thus may be considered normal in the elderly and under
-evaluated. Cancers localised at the gland may be treated with surgery
or radiotherapy, while patients with lymph-node metastases or dissemi
nated disease are treated with hormonal therapy.
