Jp. Camina et al., ISOLATION OF A BIOACTIVE CA2-MOBILIZING COMPLEX LIPID FROM BOVINE VITREOUS BODY(), Biochemical and biophysical research communications, 244(3), 1998, pp. 696-700
Vitreous body extracts show a potent Ca2+-mobilizing activity on fibro
blast cells. This Ca2+ signal is complex, and due to the presence of t
wo different bioactive substances. The first one was identified as aci
d FGF. The second one was shown to be a low molecular weight substance
identified as a complex lipid by a combination of chromatographic and
biochemical data. This finding raises the possibility that non-classi
cal substances with growth factor-like activity might play a role in t
he regulation of proliferative processes in the eye. (C) 1998 Academic
