Abstract
Sultones are readily prepared by intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction o f vinylsulfonates in an often highly stereoselective fashion. Various methods for the synthetic elaboration of these heterocycles have been developed and applied to the total synthesis of biologically active na tural products.
