Abstract
Nurses are in a key position to identify and treat urinary incontinenc e (UI)in hospitalized elders. This article reviews the consequences an d etiologies of UI with an emphasis on the most common types of UI enc ountered in the acute hospital setting. Assessment parameters and care strategies are highlighted; a nursing standard of practice protocol a lso is included.
