Abstract
In this Account we review the reactivity of organic hypervalent compou nds through reactions developed mainly at Thessaloniki University over the last 25 years. A number of the reactions discussed were not previ ously covered adequately in review articles and books. After an introd uction and a general brief discussion on structure and reactivity, we examine some early work of ours involving transformations of miscellan eous substrates using (diacyloxyiodo)benzenes. Then, we discuss variou s aspects of the chemistry of iodonium compounds, including salts, yli des and 1,4-dipoles.
