Heterochromatin is known to have contributed greatly in the karyotype
variability of Drosophila kikkawai. Two types of IV chromosome, large
acrocentric and medium metacentric, have been encountered in the India
n populations of this species. The frequency of different karyotypes w
ith respect to the IV chromosome was analysed in four Indian populatio
ns.
