We present a theoretical study on the angular and frequency distributi
ons of the acoustic and optic-phonon generation by hot electrons durin
g the terahertz-driven transport in a GaAs-based quantum well. Based o
n the detailed solution of the nonlinear balance equations in the pres
ence of an oscillating electric field of arbitrary strength, we find t
hat, when the system is exposed to an intense terahertz radiation, emi
ssions of acoustic and optic phonons are significantly enhanced, espec
ially along the polarized direction of the electric field. (C) 1998 Am
