C. Nezelof et F. Basset, LANGERHANS CELL HISTIOCYTOSIS RESEARCH - PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE, Hematology/oncology clinics of North America, 12(2), 1998, pp. 385
This article reviews the various investigative events that led to the
endorsement of the term Langerhans cell histiocytosis for the various
clinicopathologic conditions previously called Hand-Schuller-Christian
disease, Abt-Letterer-Siwe disease, Eosinophilic granuloma of bone, a
nd histiocytosis X. The different denominations reflect the changing c
onceptual approaches to the so-called reticuloendothelial system and t
he successive acquisition of new ultrastructural and immunocytochemica
l data.
