In the past, Peyronie's disease has been treated conservatively with p
oor results. Operation is more sufficient, but has its complications.
The extracorporal shock-wave therapy seems to be an effective minimal
invasive treatment. We treated 19 patients with EPT and found good cli
nical outcome. In 10 patients with painful erection this vanished comp
letely. 9 patients have had erectile dysfunction before treatment. It
persisted only in 4 patients. The deviation improved much in 3 patient
s ([> 30-60 degrees) and minimal (about 10 degrees) in another 2 patie
nts. Of the 14 patients, who were unable to perform cohabitation, this
persisted only in 8 patients. In no case there was a worsening of cli
nical symptoms, even if the plaque got bigger on palpation and ultraso
und in 5 patients and on the X-ray in 4 patients. With the absence of
side effects, the EPT-treatment of Peyronie's disease can be recommend
ed.
