Jk. Kingston et Wm. Bayly, EFFECT OF EXERCISE ON ACID-BASE STATUS OF HORSES, The Veterinary clinics of North America. Equine practice, 14(1), 1998, pp. 61
Exercise in horses is associated with a wide variety of physiological
changes in fluid, electrolyte and acid base balance. The integration o
f physiologic and physiochemical mechanisms acts to minimize alteratio
ns in pH and enhance removal of carbon dioxide produced by exercising
muscles. This article provides a description of the changes that take
place during exercise and how these changes affect acid-base balance i
n the horse.
