Abstract
To avoid flooding of the cities on the lower reach of the River Lenne, the main tributary of the Ruhr River, an adaptive on-line flood forec asting model has been developed based on a distributed deterministic c atchment model. With the help of this model optimal strategies for the operation of the Bigge Reservoir during floods can be derived. The mo del was implemented in March 1995.
