The dynamic analysis of beams undergoing large defections are studied
in this work. For simplicity and better understanding of the basic con
cepts, we focus attention on two-dimensional analysis of beams. The Eu
ler-Bernoulli hypothesis is employed with the beam undergoing large ro
tations but small strains. We extend the consistent co-rotational stat
ic analysis to dynamic analysis and obtain transient responses of the
beam. This paper includes several examples illustrating the implementa
tion and the performance of the co-rotational technique. (C) 1988 Else
