Pm. Birch et al., REAL-TIME OPTICAL-ABERRATION CORRECTION WITH A FERROELECTRIC LIQUID-CRYSTAL SPATIAL LIGHT-MODULATOR, Applied optics, 37(11), 1998, pp. 2164-2169
Real-time correction of an optically aberrated wave front by use of a
10 x 10 ferroelectric liquid-crystal spatial light modulator as the co
rrection device and a point-diffraction interferometer as the wave-fro
nt sensor is demonstrated. This type of interferometer requires no ref
erence arm and so can be used, in theory, in an astronomical adaptive-
optics system. We discuss some of the unusual features of the point-di
ffraction interferometer for wave-front sensing. (C) 1998 Optical Soci
