Abstract
The role of the lattice asymmetry parameter xi in the phase structure description of the SU(2) and SU(3) gluodynamics at finite temperature has been studied analytically in the SU(N) similar or equal to Z(N) ap proach. The properties of thermodynamic quantities have been investiga ted near the physical border. The effective action which includes the first non-trivial order from the space-like part allows estimates to b e made of the phase structure not only close to the physical border bu t in the whole area of couplings. We find that thermodynamic quantitie s depend on xi and this dependence may be strong enough, up to discont inuity over this parameter for some of them. The Hamiltonian formulati on of the SU(2) gauge theory on the asymmetric lattice is presented.
