Abstract
Small-size focal spots of bremsstrahlung radiation in a cyclic charged particle acceleratorcan can be obtained using betatron oscillations o f particles in a beam spilled onto a target having small dimensions. Q uantitative estimates of the probability that electrons will strike th e target, target holder, or the injector anode are obtained for a MIB- 6 (PXB-6) betatron. Experiments confirmed the possibility of obtaining a 0.1 x 0.1 mm(2) focal spot, with up to 80% of the accelerated elect rons striking the target.
