Abstract
When the FCC created the rules for wireless Enhanced 911 (E-911) servi ce, a flurry of research and development activities dedicated to locat ing the position of emergency callers followed. The current deadline f or this capability is October 1, 2001. In this article, we review the unique challenges and some of the proposed approaches for each of the major wireless standards.
