There have been only a few investigations on the role of aerobic actin
omycetes in human infections from Nigeria. Forty-one patients of bronc
hopulmonary disorders were investigated for infection due to aerobic a
ctinomycetes in the course of an extension of an earlier study. Infect
ions due to Nocardiopsis dassonvillei and Gordona sputi were detected
in two cases each; the patients were asthmatic with a long term histor
y of corticosteroid therapy. There was a solitary case of Rhodococcus
rhodochrous infection in a patient clinically suspected of tuberculosi
s. A single isolate of Micromonospora sp. was recovered from a case of
pneumonia of unknown etiology.
