IDENTITY OF CISTUS-PSILOSEPALUS SW. (CIST ACEAE)

Cistus psilosepalus Sw. has long been regarded as a variety of C. hirs utus Lam. 1786. It is newly identified here as a hybrid of the latter. G. psilosepalus was the only available name for substitution for the illegitimate one given by Lamarck; thus the name of C. inflatus Pourr. is offered, with the transcription of Pourret's hand written descript ion, to be applied to this ibero-atlantic species found in some locali ties on the atlantic coast of France where it is protected. Cistus psi losepalus becomes synonym of C. xlaxus Ait.
