Abstract
The Salmonella enterica smpB-nrdE intergenic region contains about 45
kb of DNA that is not present in Escherichia coli. This DNA region was
not introduced by a single horizontal transfer event, but was generat
ed by multiple insertions and/or deletions that gave rise to a mosaic
structure in this area of the chromosome.
