Abstract
Siberian small-leaved-coniferous subnemoral forests in combination wit h tall grass meadows form a unique belt in the Altai and Sayan Mountai ns. This peculiar landscape with relict features of the pre-Pleistocen e upper boundary of the thermophilous coniferous-broad-leaved forest b elt has been preserved there because of special mesoclimatic condition s. The present Fagetalia communities of the upper boundary of the fore st belt in the European mountain systems are the geographical analogue s of these forests.
