The agricultural landscape is associated with secondary vegetation. It
is one of the most represented landscapes in the Far-East and represe
nts the ecological linkage of landscape boundaries between urbanized a
nd natural systems. The pattern and process of secondary vegetation in
rural landscapes have been effected by spatio-temporal natural and cu
ltural landscape elements. The current Status-Quo of the vegetation la
ndscape is faced to risk of abandonment, over-use of forest-land and o
ther socio-economical problems in the Far-East. In this situation, the
notion ''sustainability'' is necessary to establish a framework for l
andscape-ecological planning in the rural region. This paper describes
that sustainable vegetation management acts as a positive factor to m
aintaining secondary vegetation. Holistic management strategies with i
mproved traditional management regimes, economic assistance, and envir
onmental education, must be adapted to sustainable development of rura
l vegetation landscape in the Far-East.
