In view of publications from Sweden (KEMI, 1994) focus was given to th
e polyaromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) emissions from tires in dedicated use
. With respect to chemical analyses of new and used tires, of abrasion
-material, soil-and street-drainage-samples we found low PAM-pollution
and much lower than those reported from Sweden. On busy highways the
pollution with tire-specific substances at the roadside is obvious, bu
t some meters away from the roadside no suspicious PAM-pollution was o
bserved. It is supposed that the photolytic degradation effect to smal
l abrasion particles is high enough, that no enrichment of organic add
itives from fires is observed.
