Over the past decade, Americans have recognized that violence has deep
ly permeated the lives of the most vulnerable among us-children. There
is great concern over the effect these terrible experiences will have
on present and future generations. It has also awakened the collectiv
e consciousness of our society that the impact of violence extends wel
l beyond the child who is physically victimized to other larger groups
of children such as those who witness these events. This article revi
ews the impact violence has on children.
